Most people will see your website on a phone first. Responsive design means your site automatically rearranges itself to fit any screen — phone, tablet, laptop or large monitor — so it’s always easy to read, tap and use.
Why it matters
- Most visits are on mobile. If your site is awkward on a phone, people leave and call a competitor.
- Google checks the mobile version first when deciding how to rank your site.
- Small things lose enquiries — tiny buttons, text you have to zoom into, or a form that’s hard to fill in.
What I look after
- Layouts that adapt — menus fold away neatly, columns stack and images resize.
- Easy tapping — buttons and links big enough for thumbs, with space between them.
- Readable text without zooming.
- Click-to-call and click-to-email, so mobile visitors can contact you in one tap.
- Fast loading — compressed images, lean code and no unnecessary plugins, so pages load quickly even on a weak signal.
- Accessibility — good colour contrast, clear headings and descriptions for images, so the site works for people using screen readers or keyboard navigation too.
- Testing on real devices and browsers before launch.
Who it’s for
- Anyone getting a new website — it’s built in as standard on every site I make.
- Businesses whose current site looks broken or cramped on phones.
- Sites that are slow on mobile and losing visitors because of it.
How it works
- Mobile-first design — I design the phone version alongside the desktop one, not as an afterthought.
- Build and test across phones, tablets and computers.
- Speed check using Google’s free PageSpeed tool, with fixes where needed.
- Review with you on your own phone before launch.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my site is mobile-friendly?
Open it on your phone and try to find your phone number and fill in your contact form. If either is fiddly, it needs work. I’m happy to take a look for free.
Can you make my existing site responsive?
Sometimes it can be fixed; often, for older sites, a rebuild is quicker and better value. I’ll tell you honestly which makes more sense.
Does responsive design make my site faster?
Not on its own, but I build for speed at the same time — compressed images, lean code and good hosting.
Is my site accessible to disabled visitors?
I build with accessibility in mind, including colour contrast, headings, keyboard navigation and image descriptions. I can review an existing site and list what to improve.
