Hi, I’m Oktay
I’m a freelance web designer and developer based in Enfield, North London. I’ve been building websites since 2015: WordPress sites, Shopify and WooCommerce stores, a UK-wide business directory, and plenty of plugins and tools along the way.
When my son Robin was born in January 2023, I turned years of side projects into a proper service and named it after him. That’s Nomad Robin. It’s just me, plus my little Robin on tea duty.
Why I work the way I do
I got into web development after being let down by web developers myself, back when I needed websites of my own. So I know how it feels to chase someone for updates, or to be handed a site you can’t change.
That’s why I work differently:
- You deal with me, start to finish. There’s no hand-off to a junior or a call centre.
- Plain English. I explain things clearly and never hide behind jargon.
- Built to last. I write lean, custom code instead of using heavy page builders, so sites stay fast and easy to look after.
- An ongoing relationship. A good website needs care after launch, and I’m here for that.
What I specialise in
- WordPress websites — custom themes and plugins
- eCommerce websites — Shopify and WooCommerce
- SEO and Google integrations
- Content writing and content management
- Responsive design and hosting & care
Outside work
I’m not the stereotypical developer in a dark room (except when it’s freezing cold). I love museums, art and cultural events, and try to get to them with Robin and the family whenever I can. These days our playlist is mostly nursery rhymes.
I studied Politics, Philosophy and History at Birkbeck, University of London, as a mature student — purely out of curiosity. It taught me to ask good questions, which turns out to be very useful in web design.
Let’s talk
If you have an idea for a website, or a site that isn’t working as hard as it should, get in touch. I’m always happy to have a no-pressure chat.
